RBAC & custom roles
Use the four base roles or build granular custom roles from the permission matrix.
Access control combines four base roles with optional fine-grained custom roles.
Base roles
Owner/Admin, Manager and Employee cover most needs out of the box.
Custom roles
- 1Go to App → Settings → Roles.
- 2Build a role from the permission matrix — e.g. *Payroll Specialist* (payroll only) or *HR Business Partner*.
- 3Assign it to users. Custom roles layer non-destructively over the base role gate, so you grant exactly what's needed without over-promoting people to Admin.
Tip: Granular roles plus approval workflows let you separate who can *prepare* from who can *approve* sensitive actions like payroll.
